While woodturning is one of the safest activities in the home workshop, it still uses power tools and sharp implements. Safety precautions should be taken to make a safe activity even safer. There are a few pieces of safety equipment that woodturners should own and use.
Goggles offer eye protection that is a level up from the glasses since they fit tightly against your face reusable mask filters. Safety goggles can be a bit more cumbersome to wear and have the tendency to fog up if you’re sweating or the humidity is high.
The reservoir tip is the best type to use for this kind of soldering but you could also use a normal wide chisel tip on the soldering iron. As long as the wide chisel tip can hold a little volume of solder for the soldering process.
While a pair of safety goggles or glasses may protect the eyes, a full face mask does much better job of protection. Turning masks are available inexpensively from most woodturning suppliers. They will come in a variety of forms but most will have an adjustable head band which holds the mask at three points. Masks will be either clear plastic or polycarbonate. Polycarbonate is a must for good protection.
You are vulnerable to particles and fumes when you are sanding, painting, or working with solvents. Protect your skin by wearing cotton gloves when using sharp or abrasive tools. Wear latex gloves when working with paint. Wear neoprene gloves when handling solvents, strippers, and harsh chemicals. Protect your eyes by wearing safety glasses when working with tools. Wear goggles to protect against dust and aerosol droplets when sanding, spraying, or painting over your head. To protect your lungs sand, paint, and strip outside, or cross ventilate with a least 2 open windows or doors. If there is a danger of breathing dust, aerosol, or solvent fumes, filter the air with a respirator.
5). Pour some fungicide into a sprayer, spray two coatings on the walls, pipes, ceiling and other mold-infested areas in the basement. Fan-dry the room quickly for one to two hours; this is to remove excess moisture.
Ozone is a gas that is used to kill biological contaminants. Chemical biocides are regulated by the EPA under the Federal Pesticide Law. Any chemical can be dangerous, so do your research or hire a professional! Using chemicals without proper training is not recommended.
